The opening of Thai AirAsia X direct flights between Delhi and Bangkok-Don Mueang (DMK) has added 150 local and international destinations to Delhi airport's network. The first Indian airport to connect to 150 destinations is IGI Airport, according to a statement released on Monday by the Delhi Airport International Limited (DIAL), airport operator. Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok already has a direct connection to Delhi, and now a second airport has been added.

"On Sunday, Thai AirAsia X launched direct flights between Delhi and Bangkok-Don Mueang (DMK), marking the 150th destination connected to Delhi Airport. The route will operate with Airbus A330 aircraft at a 2x weekly frequency, increasing to 4x weekly by mid-Jan 2025," said DIAL in a statement. This accomplishment, according to DIAL, demonstrates Delhi Airport's unwavering efforts to grow its network of destinations, improve operational effectiveness, facilitate smooth passenger connectivity, and offer a variety of aircraft options to connect both domestic and foreign locations.

"In the last decade, the airport experienced a 100% increase in transfer passengers, solidifying its position as a leading transit hub in South Asia. Of all the long-haul destinations from India, 88% of destinations are connected from Delhi, and 56% of all long-haul weekly flights departing from India operate from Delhi.

Almost 50% (42% to be precise) of long-haul passengers from India chose Delhi Airport as their gateway," said DIAL. It further stated that Delhi Airport allows 4 million domestic travelers to easily connect to foreign locations each year. According to DIAL, Delhi Airport will become a super-connector hub due to Indian carriers' continued introduction of wide-body aircraft, solidifying its standing as a top option for long-haul and international travel.
