Roadworks will be taking place at a major hospital this week, with delays expected. Resurfacing works will take place starting from today, Monday, outside Royal Bolton Hospital. The works will take place until Friday, March 28, and will be completed in two phases.

Traffic lights will be installed as part of the works, but space for ambulances to pass "if required" will be set out. The two bus stops outside of the main entrance will be suspended, with passengers advised to instead use bus stops on Minerva Road. A spokesperson for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust said: "Resurfacing works will be completed in two phases and to accommodate this there will be 3-way traffic lights to allow safe working areas and allow space for ambulances to pass if required.

"Each phase will take two days to complete with a final day to complete all the line markings. Please utilise alternative bus stops on Minerva Road.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause whilst these essential works are being completed to further improve the site wide roads for all users." This comes after it was announced last month that part of the car park at the maternity department will close to allow redevelopment of the ward. Bolton NHS Foundation Trust has been granted £38m from NHS England to redevelop the Princess Anne Maternity Unit, one of the busiest in the region.

Work on the new department began in December and is set to create four new modern birthing rooms with pools, while a series of events will get families' views on what they need..
