Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders knows a thing or two about cornerback greatness. After dominating at Florida State and spending 14 seasons in the NFL, Sanders is widely regarded as one of the best to ever play the position. During his time at Florida State, Sanders won the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the top cornerback in college football.
Now, as a coach, he sees that same level of play in his two-way star, Travis Hunter. At a press conference on Tuesday, Sanders confidently called Hunter the best cornerback and wide receiver in the nation. “He should win the Thorpe,” Sanders said .
“The Biletnikoff, the Jerry Rice, the Prime award—he should win every darn award they’ve got.” Then, he questioned why his personal nickname, “Prime,” hasn’t been turned into the name of an award. “Matter of fact, why don’t they have an award named after me, Rick?” he joked.
Sanders went on to propose that the top cornerback in college football receive the Prime Award. “Wouldn’t that be great—for players who play for me to win the Prime?” he asked with a grin. “They should.

As a result, there's no question that he’s a strong contender for both the Thorpe Award and the Biletnikoff Award.
On defense this season , he's recorded 23 tackles, eight passes defended, one forced fumble and three interceptions as a cornerback. Offensively, he’s contributed with 74 catches for 911 yards and nine touchdowns as a wide receiver. Sanders and the Buffaloes are ranked No.
