Liverpool v Manchester United is on. The fixture had been plunged into doubt over Saturday night and into Sunday morning as heavy snowfall spread across the north west of England. There was an initial chat between officials at 9am, but they decided they wanted to see how the weather developed across the city throughout the day.
With the match taking place at Anfield, Liverpool City Council's Grounds Safety Advisory Group met at midday to decide whether or not to postpone the game. Thankfully for football fans, the match will go ahead. The game kicks off at 4.
30pm, with millions tuning in to the most-watched fixture in club football. Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher prematurely announced the news on X, formerly Twitter , writing: "Game on!" Liverpool FC's statement reads as follows: "Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions.
"We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there.
