Another "SNL" writer also referenced Morgan's post-show Instagram post in a joke of his own.

(NEXSTAR) – Longtime “Saturday Night Live” cast member Kenan Thompson said he “definitely saw it” when country artist Morgan Wallen abruptly exited from this week’s show, telling Entertainment Weekly that he’s still unsure why Wallen was in such a rush."I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way," Thompson told EW.

Actor and Bond villain Bruce Glover dead at 92Wallen, 31, was the musical guest on Saturday night’s episode. At the end of the show, Wallen appeared on the stage alongside “Anora” Oscar-winner Mikey Madison (last week’s host) while she thanked the crew. But almost as soon as the credits began to roll, Wallen hugged Madison and walked off the stage — right past the camera — while the host and the show’s cast members stayed on-camera through the credits.

”Some fans of the show took offense to Wallen’s exit, which they viewed as rude. But others — mostly critics of “SNL” — applauded Wallen for what they viewed as some sort of intentional act of defiance.Sources for Wallen, however, have since told Variety that there was no ill will between Wallen and the “SNL” crew.

And another source who spoke to TMZ suggested that Wallen — who would exit the stage the same way during rehearsals — may have accidentally left the stage prematurely.Whatever the case, “SNL” alum Thompson said he was a little confused by the whole thing, and joked to EW that maybe Wallen “had to go to the potty or something.""It's definitely a spike in the norm," Thompson said, explaining that most guests stick around until the credits are over.

“So when there's a departure from that, it's like, hmm, I wonder what that's about?"Jan Schwieterman, star of Nickelodeon’s ‘Good Burger’ movie, dies at 52In addition to Thompson, “SNL” writer Josh Patten also made a reference to Wallen’s post-show behavior on Instagram, using Wallen’s own words to make a joke about his love of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.Patten, in an Instagram story posted over the weekend, shared a picture of a Krispy Kreme truck parked on the street, with its roll-up door wide open.“Get me to God’s country,” Patten wrote.

He later clarified that he is indeed a fan of Morgan Wallen after a viewer appeared to assume otherwise.“Ugh the woke police won’t even let you fantasize about clambering into the back of an unattended truck for a hobo-like adventure to Krispy Kreme HQ no more,” Patton joked.Musical guest Morgan Wallen performs "I'm the Problem" on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
