A 51-year-old man was arrested on Dec. 14 after crashing his vehicle on Route 16 in Dededo while suspected of driving while impaired. According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam, at around 10:45 p.
m., officers with the Guam Police Department received reports of a crash involving a black Hyundai Sonata, which was found facing south in the northbound lane. Police reported the car had been traveling south when the driver, Peter Aniwin, lost control and collided with a wooden construction sign.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Aniwin in the car with his feet outside. According to charging documents, when asked to exit the car, Aniwin had difficulty maintaining his balance and was observed “swaying on his feet.” Aniwin also appeared to be disoriented and “(bumped) into the Hyundai several times” as he attempted to walk toward the rear of the car.
An officer observed that Aniwin’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, his face flushed and red, and he had slurred speech. There was also a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, said the complaint. When asked to submit to a standardized field sobriety test, Aniwin did not respond.
He was arrested at 10:54 p.m. and charged with driving while impaired as a misdemeanor.
