Pune: A decomposed body was found at Khanapur village on Saturday morning and police suspect it to be of the govt contractor (70) abducted from Donje village on Thursday. "We received a call from a local villager informing us about the body along the Pune-Panshet road. We have sent it for post-mortem.

We will conduct a DNA test of the body to ascertain the identity of the deceased person," said additional superintendent of police, Pune Rural, Ramesh Chopade. "The DNA test will confirm whether the body is of the govt contractor or not. We have initiated a process to invoke murder charges in the case," he said.

"We have detained four men — two from Donje village and two from Madhya Pradesh — in the case. The duo detained from Madhya Pradesh are residents of Ahilyanagar. They had fled there.

We are questioning them," Chopade said. He said, "The govt contractor, a resident of Donje, was abducted when he was out for a morning walk on Thursday. A few men forced him into a car from a spot between Atkarwadi and Donje on Sinhagad Road.

CCTV cameras' footage shows the suspects' vehicle going towards Panshet from Donje." Chopade said, "Four men had demanded a car and Rs2 crore from the elderly man on Monday and Tuesday. They threatened to abduct him if their demands were not met.

"The elderly man did not give them either, following which he was abducted." He said, "We have registered a case of abduction and ransom against the four men. As of now, we are searching for the abducted man and are questioning the detained men on his whereabouts.
