Home | Decision to form GNU was not premeditated: Mantashe African National Congress (ANC) National Chairperson Gwede Mantasha says the decision to form a Government of National Unity (GNU) was not premeditated. Mantashe says that the ANC was rather forced into the GNU because of the electoral outcomes. The ANC suffered a major setback at the 29 May polls when it lost its majority for the first time in 30 years.
Mantashe made the remarks at the wreath-laying ceremony of anti-apartheid stalwart Oliver Tambo at the Wattville Cemetery in Ekurhuleni yesterday. “We are struggling in a terrain that is not of our own choosing. It is a terrain that was imposed on us by the fact that we lost the majority, and the GNU is a consequence, it’s a plan.
Nobody planned the GNU. The GNU is a consequence of having lost a majority in the elections, and our restoration will be to regain that majority and begin to govern on our own, that will be restoration.” Oliver Tambo Memorial | GNU was not planned: Mantashe SABC © 2024.
