ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police solved an arson case involving three single-storey terrace houses in Taman Mutiara Rini here within 24 hours, following the arrest of a 22-year-old man.The case came to light after a resident of the housing estate lodged a police report in the wake of the fire, which occurred at 6.55am yesterday (April 13).
District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said that, acting on intelligence, a team from the district's Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect at 1pm the same day.Kumarasan said checks showed that the man had a record of two previous criminal offences and tested positive for drugs.
"Investigations showed that the motive behind the fire was debt-related. Items seized during the arrest included a set of clothes and a lighter believed to be linked to the incident," he said.The suspect was remanded for six days starting today to facilitate investigations into the case under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house.
