Former Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel and Nelsy Cruz, the governor of Monte Cristi province, were among those killed.
Cruz’s brother is Nelson Cruz, another former baseball player. Footage released by police shows an aerial view of the site late on April 8, as rescuers searched for survivors. “We remain united, hopeful and in brotherhood, working tirelessly to find every life still waiting to be found,” police said.
