Ludhiana: Police in Ludhiana have arrested two men and identified nine others in connection with the March 25 murder of Ram Dhani Tiwari , a furniture and electronics store owner who was killed during a botched robbery in Durga Colony. The breakthrough comes weeks after the murder sent shockwaves through the city and sparked public protests. Authorities said the robbers had no intention to kill, but panicked when they found the owner asleep inside the shop.
The arrested accused are Nand Lal Paswan of Machhi Market and Jeet Lal ‘Master' of Dhandari Khurd. Police also recovered stolen property, including four LED TV screens, 35 mobile phones, a home theatre system, and a clothes iron. Inside Job and Fatal Mistake The gang had planned only a theft, police said, but the situation escalated fatally when Tiwari woke up and confronted the intruders.
He was tied up, gagged, and strangled to death after attempting to resist. Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-IV) Mandeep Singh Sandhu has shared with the media that Paswan, though not present during the murder, played a critical role by conducting surveillance on the store and hosting the gang's planning meeting at his residence. "The gang didn't know the owner slept in the store.
When he woke up and tried to stop them, he was overpowered and killed. The accused then fled with the stolen items," Sandhu said. The Hunt Continues Nine suspects remain at large.
They include Roshan Mota and Mithlesh Kumar of Jagdish Colony, Sooraj Kumar and Raja Kumar of Dhandari Khurd, Sonu, Satinder alias Nirhua, and Radhey Shyam Yadav of Ishwar Colony, Raja Ram, and the alleged mastermind, Sunil—who has a prior theft case registered against him in Fatehgarh Sahib district and was out on bail at the time of the murder. "All accused are from Bihar originally but had been living in Ludhiana for the past few years," said assistant commissioner of police (Industrial Area-A), Jasbinder Singh. "We are pursuing leads to arrest the remaining gang members and trace their involvement in other thefts.
" Community Anger, Political Attention Tiwari's body was discovered with his legs tied and mouth gagged, with signs of both blunt and sharp-force injuries. The autopsy confirmed strangulation as the cause of death. Following the incident, Durga Colony market remained shut in protest.
Local residents demanded better security measures in the area. Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian visited the family, assuring justice and improved policing. Tiwari, a well-known figure in the neighbourhood, ran his store just metres from his home.
His death has reignited concerns about rising urban crime and the need for stronger deterrence. MSID:: 120096291 413 |.
