The special election was triggered by a citizen-led effort to recall Krenning, who was elected to represent Ward 1 in 2023. However, Krenning has since resigned from his seat, and the recall question on the ballot won’t be counted. What will be counted is the second question on the ballot asking voters to choose between Geoff Frahm and Jen Swanty as Krenning’s replacement.
The winner will serve the remainder of Krenning’s four-year term, through November 2027.Campaign spendingThe two candidates vying to replace Krenning raised just under $11,755 combined in donations through Feb. 18, according to campaign finance reports submitted to the City Clerk’s office.
Of that, $7,430 was spent on campaign expenses, including newspaper advertising in the Reporter-Herald, candidate signs, mailings and more.Frahm led Swanty on both counts, raising $6,715 from 59 individual donors, and spending $5,499.Frahm’s campaign also got support from the registered committee Silent Majority Speaks, the same group behind Krenning’s recall petition.
According to an independent expenditure report submitted to the City Clerk, Silent Majority Speaks spent $13,066 on digital advertising and postcard mailing. In comparison, Swanty raised $5,040 from 47 individual donors and at three candidate meet-and-greet events.
