In response to recent social media threats against schools, Dorchester School District Two (DDTwo), the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Summerville Police Department announced they are working together to ensure the safety of all students and staff. “Many of the screenshots that we are seeing are duplicates of what has been sent around our area and other places,” said Dr. Shane Robbins, DDtwo superintendent, in a joint press release.

“The threats, which continue to resurface on social media, are being taken seriously, and all agencies are actively investigating their origin. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our No. 1 priority.

We want to assure parents and the community that we are doing everything possible, in partnership with law enforcement, to thoroughly investigate these threats and ensure that our schools remain safe spaces for learning. The agencies are working to locate the source of these messages. Threats of violence, even those made online, are taken seriously and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We encourage anyone with information to come forward.” According to the press release, DDTwo, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Summerville Police Department are committed to maintaining a safe learning environment and encouraging parents and guardians to talk to their children about the consequences of this misinformation. “It is important to note that making false threats of violence is a crime and carries severe legal consequences,” Robbins said.

“We want to remind everyone that making or sharing false threats, even as a prank, is not a joke. It can lead to criminal charges, and we will pursue legal action against those responsible.” Robbins thanked parents, staff and students for their continued vigilance and cooperation, adding that the community is strongest when working together.

“We appreciate the ongoing support from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Summerville Police Department during this time,” he said..
