It’s official, DC Studios has handed out a green light to a live-action feature film about Batman villain Clayface over at Warner Bros. Pictures reports . News of the project first emerged in March last year suggesting that beloved genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep,” “The Haunting on Hill House”) had pitched DC Bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran a feature film about the character.

At the time, it was said to be a standalone tragedy-laced horror/thriller project. More recently it was rumored Flanagan had completed the script and shooting was scheduled for next spring. Those rumors have now been confirmed.

As previously reported, Flanagan is committed to directing his new “The Exorcist” film and developing a “Carrie” TV series for Amazon MGM Studios so won’t be directing the “Clayface” movie. The trade today indicates that an announcement about who his helming the project is imminent which suggests they’ve found someone. It’s not clear at present if the character will be a part of the DCU or an Elseworlds-style project.

Clayface is most known via Ron Perlman’s performance in the 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series” but has appeared in other works, including an appearance in the recent DCU animated series “Creature Commandos” along with being a regular character on Max’s “Harley Quinn” series..
