It’s the starring role Basil Karlo was born to play! Unless they’re doing the Preston Payne or Matt Hagen version of the character. Variety is reporting that a movie about the Batman villain Clayface is coming down the pike. Written by Mike Flanagan, the film is currently looking for a director.

Flanagan pitched the ‘face flick last year, but has gotten too booked up to direct it himself. With a new Exorcist jawn at Blumhouse and a Carrie series for Amazon MGM, who has time for, frankly, a mid-tier at best Rogues Gallery member? Really, we’re asking, who’s avail? There have been eight Clayfaces in the comics, beginning in 1940. Most of them are B-movie actors who go Goo Mode for one reason or another — falling into radioactive protoplasm, a pituitary gland disorder, a The Substance situation , the list goes on.

Harley Quinn ’s Clayface (pictured above) became plops of living glop after a “terrible pottery accident.” It’s unknown yet which Clayface with which origin story is being considered for this new iteration of the character. Regardless, the film will need a leading mad who can do “bad” acting really good.
