DC asks home guard office to vacate school rooms in 15 days

Mehak Jain Ludhiana: Two days after TOI highlighted the issue of three rooms at Government Primary Basic School , Jagraon being illegally occupied by home guard personnel for nearly six years, (2018 onwards), DC Jitendra Jorwal ordered them to vacate the rooms in two weeks. In a written order, a copy of which is with TOI, the DC wrote to the office of the district commander, Punjab Home Guards , saying, “Your department has been working for a long time. However, some rooms in Jagraon's government school building are being used by home guards, which is affecting the studies of students studying in the school.

As per the report submitted by the district education officer, primary, a portion having 3 rooms is under the use of the home guard. With a strength of 375 students, there is a dire need for rooms. Keeping in view the number of children and lack of rooms in the school, the home guard office has been requested to shift to some other place and vacate the rooms in 15 days so that these rooms can be used for students of the school.



” The DC told TOI, “The office of the home guard has been given 15 days to vacate the rooms occupied in the government school.” School staff expressed joy and gratitude upon receiving the orders. School teacher Karamjeet Kaur said that they would organise a ceremony after regaining possession of the rooms.

She told TOI, “The number of students has more than doubled but the number of rooms has not been increased as needed as the place is occupied by the home guard office, in which only three or four employees are present.” When the home guard office was built in these rooms, the school had only 168 children. Eventually, the number increased to 375, with 11 teachers.
