Days after alt-rock band’s onstage fight and abrupt end to tour, there’s a new song

When the lead singer attacked the guitarist, the tour was called off. But that didn't stop new music.

It’s maybe the last thing anyone would expect. From Jane’s Addiction , at least. Because after lead singer Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro during a performance last week, the band pulled the plug on its North American reunion tour .

However, despite the apologies and despite the chaos, Jane’s Addiction has just released new music. The brand new song is called “ True Love ” (listen below). “I am proud of the work we did on this song but I am equally saddened by the fact that you will likely never hear it live,” Navarro said, referring to the band’s recent troubles with Farrell , who can be heard on the track.

The Jane’s Addiction frontman, 65, punched Navarro , 57, onstage during the band’s Sept. 13 concert in Boston (see video below). The show was part of the reunion tour of the group’s classic lineup — Farrell, Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins.

Before the reunion shows, they last played together 14 years ago. After apologizing to fans and canceling the next show on the tour, Navarro, Avery and Perkins shared a statement addressing Farrell’s onstage outburst and canceled the rest of the tour , which had 14 shows remaining. “Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell , we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour,” they said.

“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative,” they continued. “We hope that he will find the help he needs. We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets.

We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken.” Farrell issued his own statement.

“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” he said. “Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.” In Navarro’s post about the new song, he also publicly apologized to the bands Love and Rockets and Crawlers , who were part of the tour.

“I’d also like to publicly apologize to our crew, @crawlersband and their crew and to @loveandrocketsofficial and their crew,” he said. “Thanks for being our travel companions for as long as you did. I am gutted that things ended this way and that so many jobs were lost as a result.

May all of our hearts mend together.” A post shared by Dave Navarro (@davenavarro) Jane’s Addiction released the new song “ Imminent Redemption ” in July, which marked the group’s first song with Avery in 34 years, since the 1990 album “ Ritual De Lo Habitual .” Farrell and Avery founded Jane’s Addiction in Los Angeles in 1985.

Farrell is also known for founding the Lollapalooza music festival in 1991 and the band Porno for Pyros with Perkins in 1992. Jane’s Addiction’s debut album, “ Nothing’s Shocking ” (1988) and its second album, “ Ritual De Lo Habitual ,” were both nominated for Grammys. The group’s hit songs include “ Been Caught Stealing ” (1990), which received two Grammy nominations; “ Jane Says ” (1988), “ Stop! ” (1990) and “ Just Because ” (2003).
