Ludhiana: A day after former councillor Mamta Ashu took on MLA Gurpreet Gogi on the garbage mess in Jawahar Nagar camp, Gogi said he has directed officials concerned to fix the problem with compactor if it was not working. MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal also directed officials to check if the adjoining land belongs to MC and if there were chances of installing more compactors. The former councillor had posted photographs of garbage scattered on the road in Jawahar Nagar camp on her social media page and condemned AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi for handing of waste in the constituency.
The former councillor accused civic officials of acting under political pressure. On Saturday, MLA Gogi raised the issue at a meeting held with MC officials in the zone D office. Police personnel have been deployed at the compactor site at night to stop illegal dumping of waste, which spills over on to the road as well.
Now, officials have been directed to issue challans to anyone caught dumping garbage illegally. MLA Gogi said: “We will resolve this issue and officials are told to pay attention to garbage lifting. Garbage will be lifted from the site twice or thrice a day and cops will pay more attention to illegal garbage dumping .
