Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced plans to donate ₦300 million to orphanages across Nigeria through his foundation, the Davido Adeleke Foundation (DAF). The singer made this known via his official Twitter account on Monday, stating, “Once again my birthday this year, we donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse & addiction. This year is N300m.

Details to follow soon.” LEADERSHIP recalls that Davido established the Davido Adeleke Foundation in 2022 with the aim of supporting vulnerable children across the country. The foundation collaborated with other charitable organisations to reach its goals.

In July 2023, Davido announced that the foundation had donated over ₦200 million to orphanages nationwide, positively impacting the lives of 13,818 children. At the time, he reaffirmed his commitment to continue these efforts, promising additional donations in 2024. Speaking about the foundation’s mission in a statement, Davido said, “I founded the DAF in 2022 with a strong desire and passion to continually assist and create a proper framework for the ongoing charitable works to benefit the good people of Nigeria.

“Through this foundation, we have raised millions of Naira and dispersed much-needed funds to hundreds of orphanages, significantly improving the lives of countless children.” The singer’s philanthropic journey began in 2021 after his birthday when he raised over ₦200 million by sharing his bank account details on Twitter (now X). Following the overwhelming response, Davido announced that the entire amount, along with an additional ₦50 million from his own funds, would be donated to orphanages and the Paroche Foundation, an organisation that combats drug abuse and addiction.

“I am delighted to announce that all the funds received totaling ₦200,000,000 will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche Foundation,” Davido stated at the time..
