David Ford In The Lead At Tar Heel Intercollegiate

North Carolina's David Ford, the top-ranked player in the nation, overcame a slow start to shoot 6-under 64 in the second round to take a one-stroke lead after 36 holes in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Saturday at Finley Golf Club.

Three Kennesaw State players shot in the 60s in the second round to take a four-shot lead into Sunday's final round. Claes Borregaard led the Owls in the afternoon with a 66, Kyle Bachkosky shot 68-69 for 3-under 137 and Hunter Gillard shot 67 in round two to tie Borregaard for fourth place at 1-under 139.

Ford shot 2-over 72 in the first round but bounced back in round two with five birdies, an eagle and only one bogey. The 72 snapped a streak of six consecutive rounds in the 60s, but the 64 was the third time in his last seven rounds he shot 64 or better. The senior from Peachtree Corners, Ga.



, has won each of his last two tournaments to set the single-season UNC record with four wins. He has six career victories, one shy of Dustin Bray's school-best seven. Kennesaw State shot 284-273 for a 3-under 857.

The Tar Heels (280-281) are second at 1-over, Elon is third at 8 over par, and Jacksonville and UCF are tied for fourth at 11 over. Ford leads Bachkosky by one, UCF's Hans Risvaer by two and Gillard and Borregaard by three. Carolina's Maxwell Ford (71-69) and Sihan Sandhu (68-72) are among a quartet of players tied for seventh at even-par 140.

Keaton Vo (68-75) is tied for 22 nd at 3-over 143. Sunday's final round begins at 8:15 a.m.

(the Tar Heels are paired with Kennesaw State and Elon in groupings that begin at 9:44 a.m). Admission is free; parking is available at the Finley North lot by the soccer and lacrosse fields with shuttles bringing patrons to the clubhouse by the first and 10 th tees.
