A 36-year-old Davenport man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a child, Davenport police said.

A 36-year-old Davenport man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a child, Davenport police said. Rickey Baines Jr. is charged in Scott County District Court with one count of second-degree sexual abuse.

Baines also is charged with one count of lascivious acts with a child, a Class C felony that carries a prison sentence of 10 years, and one count of indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor that carries a two-year prison sentence. According to the arrest affidavit filed by Davenport police Detective Maureen Hammes, Baines sexually abused an 11-year-old sometime between June 1, 2022, and July 20, 2022. Baines was arrested Wednesday.

During a first appearance on the charges Thursday in Scott County District Court, Magistrate Jay Sommers scheduled a preliminary hearing in the case for March 21. Baines was being held Thursday night in the Scott County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond set by Sommers.
