He added that the barrier gate at the entrance was also reported to be opened, reinforcing the perception that the road was accessible to all vehicles.“These motorists did not intend to violate the rules.“They simply had no idea they were entering a restricted zone because there were no proper signs or physical deterrents.

“Such ‘trap-style’ enforcement is unjust as it is tantamount to meting out penalty without proper warning,” he said in a statement yesterday.Dapsy wants the barrier at the gate to be lowered at all times to prevent the public from unknowingly entering the bus-only lane.Hee pointed out that in order for Miri to progress towards becoming a smart city, its infrastructure management and public management must improve in tandem.

“The public deserve to be clearly informed of the rules. Enforcement should educate, not entrap,” he said.Hee also emphasised that Dapsy was not against enforcement of rules and regulations here, saying that it must be based on clear communication and public awareness.

In this regard, he called upon the Miri City Council and relevant departments to immediately rectify such weaknesses.Hee suggested installing large and visible signage at the entrance; lowering the gate barrier at all times to physically restrict access; and deploying on-site personnel to guide traffic and prevent further public confusion.“The authorities should also review summonses issued and consider waiving penalties for those who unknowingly entered this restricted area,” he added.

Hee warned that if the issues remained unresolved, Dapsy would not hesitate to mobilise affected citizens and request a fair resolution from the authorities./ends with pic/The post Dapsy calls out authorities for lack of warning signs at Miri bus terminal appeared first on Borneo Post Online..
