April 6 bulletin, the synoptic station in Virac, Catanduanes will measure a 43°C heat index on Monday. Meanwhile, a heat index as high as 42°C is expected to hit Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Dumagas, Iloilo. The heat index measures how hot it feels to the human body, factoring in humidity along with the actual air temperature.
The state weather bureau categorizes areas with a 42°C to 51°C heat index in the "danger" category, with a risk for heat stroke. Among the synoptic stations in Metro Manila, NAIA Pasay City is forecast to measure a heat index of 40°C, and Science Garden Quezon City 39°C. A heat index from 33°C to 41°C is is the “extreme caution” category, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible.
PAGASA advises the public to limit outdoor activity, remain hydrated, and wear fresh clothes to avoid heat-related illnesses.
