All eyes were on Mike Tyson's return to the ring to take on Jake Paul on Friday night, but fighting fans were thrilled to know that they could tune into UFC 309 on Saturday night, especially as the Tyson-Paul fight turned out to be a dud. And during their action, Dana White provided a big UFC-related update. UFC 309 has a loaded card, with Jon Jones taking on Stipe Miocic in the main event, and Charles Oliveira squaring off against Michael Chandler in the co-main event.
Considering how Tyson vs. Paul flamed out pretty quickly, fans will be hoping to get some great fights on Saturday night. Ever the planner, though, White is already looking ahead to upcoming UFC events, and which fights will be taking place when.
While Tyson and Paul were in the ring, White shared an update on UFC 310, revealing the new main event in the process. "The welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov is off due to Belal having surgery," White announced in the update. "Stepping up into the main event is flyweight champion (Alexandre) Pantoja who will be facing the debuting Kai Asakura.
" Pantoja vs Asakura is LIVE December 7th on @ESPNPlus PPV! #UFC310 pic.twitter.com/9iTc9pVG9t This is a pretty big change for UFC 310, as their main event has changed just a few weeks ahead of the action.
In addition to these changes, White revealed that Shavrat Rakhmonov will now be facing Ian Garry in UFC 301's co-main event, and that the new main event for UFC 311 will feature Jacobe Covington taking on Joaquin Buckley. © Jasper Colt / USA TODAY NETWORK With the Tyson-Paul fight not delivering the goods, White took it as an opportunity to remind fans of all the great fights that will be coming up in the UFC, and their strong slate of action for UFC 309 looks like it could not have come at a better time. It's an exciting time to be a UFC fan, as there are some great bouts on the horizon.
UFC 309 is set to get underway with the early prelims kicking off at 6 P.M. EST, followed by the prelims at 8 P.
M. EST, and the main card at 10 P.M.
