After a 1-2 start to the college football season, it's clear that Florida fans have seen enough of Billy Napier. Fans have been calling for the head coach's firing over the last three weeks, and it seems that it will only be a matter of time before the school parts ways with him. For now, he's still the head coach.

Napier looks like he's on his way to a second win this season, a victory that would get the team back to .500, but the standard at Florida and in the SEC is much higher. SEC coaches are judged on championships and big-time wins, and the fact is that Napier hasn't had enough of either to guarantee better job security.

Florida's last full-time coach before Napier was Dan Mullen, and the current ESPN analyst made an interesting observation on Saturday. ESPN's Matt Barrie posted a screenshot of a trivia question asking when Florida and Mississippi State last finished with double-digit wins. The answer was 2019 for Florida and 2014 for Mississippi State - with Mullen being the head coach of both programs.

Mullen retweeted Barrie's post, making it clear that he knows he's missed at each program. The Gators are looking to get to 2-2 before the bulk of their schedule, which is among the most difficult in the country this season. After Saturday's game against Mississippi State, Florida will welcome UCF to the Swamp before facing Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas, LSU and Ole Miss in consecutive games.

Napier may not be the head coach by the end of that stretch, but we'll learn a lot more about the Gators after running the gauntlet to end their SEC season. Mullen may not be at Florida anymore, but after Napier's disastrous start to the 2024 season, there's no doubt that some fans would like to see him come back.
