The decorated Paralympian, 47, revealed earlier this month that she had pulled out of the ITV ice skating show following a fractured ankle injury in rehearsals.
Sarah was among the sports stars in attendance at the 2024 Sports Personality of the Year Awards in Salford on Monday. And speaking to Claire Balding, Sarah - who is currently on crutches - spoke about how her injury happened and when she would be fit enough to get back to cycling training. As Sarah walked over to Claire with his crutches, Claire asked: 'That was more nerve wracking than being in a race, what have you done to yourself?' 'I'm not used to being this slow,' Sarah replied.
'I was training to do some ice skating and I tripped a bit and I broke my ankle.' Sarah answered: 'Not sure, I did it two weeks ago and got the pot taken off yesterday and I'm doing rehab like a crazy woman to try and get back quicker.' Her comments come less than two weeks after she said she is 'gutted' she has had to leave the competition just a month before the 2025 show launch.
Sarah, who was due to compete on the ice with her professional skating partner Sylvain Longchambon , revealed she is now in recovery after an operation as she shared a picture with crutches and a cast leg. The athlete was born with an under-developed left hand as her arm was tangled in the womb. 'Absolutely gutted to have my Dancing on Ice training interrupted in this way - just as my first routine with @slongchambon was really coming together! ⛸️ 'An awkward stumble and fall with my left foot stuck on the ice sadly led to me fracturing my left ankle.
'I’m so fortunate that both Sylvain and Coach @stephenpickavance were by my side and knew exactly what to do and that the medical backup for the show is truly world class. 'Whilst I can’t wear my left skating boot in time to take to the ice in January, I’m working with the team at ITV to come up with a plan for what’s next and I’ll always be the biggest cheerleader of the awesome group that is the Class of 2025 ⭐️ 'In the meantime I’ll be fully focused on all the strength and mobility work I need to do to get back to full power and of course back to my bike ahead of next season! 'My career has seen so many ups and downs with injury and illness, plus returning after two babies, which means I’m well equipped for another comeback.
'Thankfully the surgeon said I have strong bones so otherwise it could have been a lot worse. 'I’m so grateful to have had the chance to start learning to skate with the most awesome people (see pics 4-7). I couldn’t have asked for a better professional partner and coaching team around me.

Sarah's place in the Dancing On Ice was confirmed during an appearance on Lorraine in October. She said: 'I'm excited to learn a new skill and have the opportunity to put myself out there and learn a new sport.'
