Dale Earnhardt Jr. ’s wife, Amy Earnhardt , admits that being the wife of a pro racing legend can come with its share of misconceptions. Amy, 43, and Dale, 50, got married on New Year’s Eve in 2016 after dating for seven-and-a-half years.

But even with their long history before tying the knot, Amy still dealt with her fair share of detractors when she officially joined one of the most famous racing families in history. “I grew up in south Texas, I didn’t grow up around racing,” Amy exclusively told Us Weekly , adding that she faced a substantial amount of scrutiny over how she and Dale “met,” including comments regarding how she had seemingly “conquered the elusive Dale Jr..

“Being in a relationship with Dale, there just is a certain amount of that, just because. It’s funny, you sit in the studio and we’re just sitting here talking and it’s just the two of us. I think you forget sometimes how many people are watching or the reach of the show.

” Amy added, “The extra attention is not really something I love. It’s something I’m going to figure out how to get used to. But it’s not something I wanted.

” Dale, who releases the podcast through his Dirty Mo Media company, acknowledged he was “concerned how people would receive it and how Amy might be affected by any kind of positive or negative criticism.” Despite some reservations, however, Dale gushed about the podcast being an opportunity to uniquely peel back the curtain on his marriage and family life. Dale and Amy share daughters Isla , 6, and Nicole , 4.

“Doing the show is so much fun because this is really the first glimpse into who [Amy] is,” Dale told Us. “It’s also a side of me that people don’t see. They get to see our back-and-forth and see that we’re just regular and that the relationship is really awesome.

” Dale added, “I’m very proud of the work I’ve done and the person that I’ve become to Amy and our girls. I’m very proud of our marriage. It’s fun to let people see that a little bit.

“I think as long as you do those things and you’re kind, you can get through anything.” Amy added, “People get a little uptight and I think they hold people to a standard that’s not real. Marriage isn’t a set of rules.
