DAKAS FC held on to beat Capitol FC 2-1 in the women’s Grand Final of the inaugural NCD Governor’s Cup soccer challenge at Gerehu Secondary School yesterday. Dakas FC scored both their goals through Davina Nowata and Stella Kero to lead 2-0, before former PNG international Jacklyn Chalau scored Capitol FC’s only goal from a direct free-kick late in the game. Dakas Fc held on to claim the title and bragging rights for another year.

Dakas FC coach/player Francisca Mendoni after the match commended the NCD Governor’s Cup management for introducing soccer as it has created a lot of hype in keeping their youths busy during this festive period in the Nation’s Capital. “This was a great opportunity to utilise our young girls in the community and it has paid off. “We had a few experienced hands as well just to steady the team, but it was all our young girls that paved the way for the win,” she added.

Mendoni further said the win is a huge boost to their younger players confidence and they are definitely looking forward to defending their title next year..
