Die Folgen: Bayern’s 2-1 loss to Inter (Bavarian Football Works) Bayern Munich hosted Inter Milan in a crucial Champions League tilt and came up short in a very disappointing way. The Bavarians looked ill-prepared, were inefficient in front of the net, and made some extremely poor decisions en route to a bitter 2-1 loss. There is much to discuss, so let’s get to it.
Here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s begin with the starting XI: ! Here’s how we line up against Inter. ⚽️ #FCBINTER #UCL #FCBayern #MiaSanMia pic.twitter.
com/TfnwfpDWYn — FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) April 8, 2025 The biggest surprise was Thomas Müller being left on the bench in favor of Raphaël Guerreiro. Otherwise, Josip Stanišić starting at left-back was expected after Kompany used the Croatian in that role against FC Augsburg last weekend. Michael Olise nearly put Bayern Munich up 1-0 in the 7th minute, but Yann Sommer did just enough to push it away for a corner.
Sommer stifling Bayern Munich...
a tradition like any other Kane had a very good chance in the first half as well, but found the post. For most of the first half, Bayern Munich was the better team, but the 38th minute would be a fateful one for the Bavarians. As Inter Milan charged down the left side, a cross was whipped in toward Marcus Thuram, who had cut in front of Kim Min-jae.
Thuram back heeled the low-cross to Lautaro Martinez, who buried his shot attempt. Konrad Laimer kept Inter Milan onside to keep the play alive as the Austrian’s occasional issues with positioning reared their ugly head. It was the first shot on goal for Inter Milan and they made it count.
Inter Milan’s compact set-up definitely got even tighter after the goal, which seemed to frustrate Bayern Munich. Those missed chances early for Bayern Munich stung a little bit more after the goal. At halftime, Bayern Munich had to be a bit frustrated and unfulfilled.
After missing on two or three quality chances, the Bavarians simply needed to regroup and hope for a more efficient effort in the second half. While Bayern Munich showed flashes of desire in the attack, the first half's inefficiency would prove to be too much to overcome. Leroy Sané and Kane were just not on-point and Raphael Guerreiro was solid, but not spectacular.
Michael Olise did what he could, but nothing seemed to crack the staunch defending of Inter Milan and the clutch goalkeeping from Sommer. Müller’s entry into the match was met with a rousing show of appreciation from the fans on the house, and the veteran repaid their loyalty with a goal in the 85th minute. Laimer chipped a little cross into the box, which fell right to Müller, who knew just what to do with the ball to make it 1-1.
Nothing could ruin that moment...
right? Right? Some questionable team defending led to Sacha Boey being out in a position where whatever he decided was going to make or break the game...
and he broke it (not in a good way). When Boey left Carlos Augusto, the ball went right to Augusto, who drove and sent a cross to David Frattesi, who put it home for a 2-1 lead in the 88th minute. And.
..that was that.
Overall, Bayern Munich just did not do enough. Whether or not you believe in the football gods, karma, juju, or just riding the vibes, it must be asked it Kompany tempted fate by not starting Müller. Team morale, energy, and focus can all be affected by such a decision and it seems like Kompany just made the wrong call.
Do not get me wrong, Bayern Munich lost because Inter Milan’s players were better on Tuesday, but it is tough to not wonder what might have been if the team could have rode the emotional wave that would have naturally occurred had Müller started. We’ll never know, but it is already time to move on. Der Klassiker awaits and then a trip to San Siro.
There is no time to sulk...

(TEAMtalk) Bayern Munich has been linked to Bournemouth center-back for a few months now, but the Bavarians are reportedly trying to make a quick strike in an effort to outgun Real Madrid , Liverpool FC , and Newcastle United : The race to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has taken a dramatic turn after Bayern Munich entered the race for his signing, and sources have informed us that Vincent Kompany is ready to go the extra mile to ensure they beat the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid to his signature. Huijsen has become one of the most spoken-about players over the last few months and is going to be one of, if not the, most coveted players of the summer transfer window . Indeed, the Spain international is wanted by multiple top Premier League sides, while he is also edging increasingly higher up the wanted list of the mighty Real Madrid, who have been tracking his progress at Bournemouth with great interest.
However, sources have confirmed that it is Bayern Munich who are ready to barge their way to the front of the queue and we have informed they are now pushing ‘very hard’ to try and get a deal done in the coming weeks. The German club wants to get him signed early in the window and are now pushing to convince him to join them over rivals and with the summer window officially opening for business on June 1. We’ve been told that Huijsen has been made the express transfer wish of Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, who is ‘very, very keen’ on landing the defender and has made his feelings clear to the player and his representatives.
Furthermore, we can reveal the Bayern boss has had scouts looking at him from way back from Kompany’s time as Burnley manager and from when the centre-half was making his way in the game during a loan spell with Roma . Despite Bayern’s strong push to sign him, Real Madrid have also made more contact in recent weeks and are eager to see him join up to bolster their defence this summer. And while Bayern Munich are understood to be willing to offer the 19-year-old a lucrative five-year deal, Real Madrid remain the biggest threat to any side keen on the twice-capped Spain defender this summer as they are his boyhood club and he has openly admitted that he dreams of playing for them one day.
Bayern, though, are still trying to swoop first and sources say they may be the first club to make an official offer for the coveted central defender. This is very interesting, but Huijsen is so closely linked to Real Madrid, it would be considered a massive upset if someone other than Los Blancos ended up with the Spain international’s signature on the dotted line. Related Bavarian Podcast Works — The Bundesliga Rundown with Marcus Iredahl: Matchday 28 Werner-to-MLS gaining steam (TEAMtalk) The star-crossed career of Timo Werner continues and his next stop could be with the New York Red Bulls: Tottenham have already decided not to trigger the buy option clause in Timo Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig and Jurgen Klopp could play a key role in securing his next move.
Werner, 29, initially joined Tottenham on loan in January last year, before Spurs opted to sign him on another loan deal last summer, which expires at the end of this season. However, the German winger has failed to make his mark this term, scoring just one goal in 27 appearances so far. He’s now struggling with injuries and has featured in just one of Tottenham’s last eight Premier League games.
We can confirm that Tottenham decided against triggering the €10m (£8.5m; $10.9m) option to buy clause in Werner’s loan, so he will have to look for a new club this summer.
Former Liverpool manager Klopp has stepped into a new role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, meaning he helps in player recruitment for RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg, and others. Sources have revealed to TEAMtalk that several MLS clubs, notably New York Red Bulls, have shown interest in signing Werner, meaning he could move between two Red Bull-owned sides in the coming months. TEAMtalk understands that Werner is interested in a move to MLS as he looks to find the best place to relaunch his career.
He is in no rush and wants to take his time before deciding his next move. Werner does have interest from European clubs, too, where he is convinced he would play a starting role, so that is still an option for him. Fabrizio Romano also checked in on Werner as well: Tottenham position has not changed: Spurs won’t sign Timo Werner on permanent deal from RB Leipzig.
He’s gonna leave #THFC in June, return to Leipzig and assess new club options, as he’s expected to leave the German side again. If Werner wants any hope of a revival for his career, he should highly consider his European options. At 29-years-old, this might be Werner’s last chance to make a push to play in Europe.
