Mail Sport understands the Eastern Conference outfit have the discovery rights for Muller who came off the bench to score for Bayern in their Champions League quarter final first leg defeat to Inter Milan on Tuesday evening. LAFC, partner club to Bayern, San Diego and FC Dallas have also been credited with interest as Muller prepares to make a decision over his next career move in the coming weeks.
Muller is understood to be looking for a multi-year contract worth around 5-6m dollars a year. The 28-year-old was the outstanding player in the midfield battle as Inter got a massive result in the form of a 2-1 win in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg.
Inter Milan would not even pick up the phone for bids under €100 million. So far, Inter and Barella have resisted all the transfer interest – of which there has been no shortage. Most recently, Al-Hilal tried to bring Barella to Saudi Arabia.
They tempted Barella with a contract worth an eye-watering €35 million net per season. However, Barella turned this down flatly. Meanwhile, Manchester City are also long-term admirers of Barella.
However, so far he has always rejected the advances of Pep Guardiola. Then, Bayern Munich are also among Barella’s suitors. And therefore, it was perhaps fitting that the 28-year-old would put in such a fine display on the Bavarians’ home turf.
For this summer, the Gazzetta anticipate, Liverpool appear to be the club with the strongest interest in making a big move for Barella. But there is little sign that the Italian international would have his head turned. And it certainly wouldn’t be for cheap.
