Bayern, Upamecano still talking (@Plettigoal) Bayern Munich has been in talks with center-back Dayot Upamecano for weeks now, but an agreement has not been reached. Why? Well, Bayern Munich is not quite so sure that Upamecano’s €15 million per year salary request is the same rate that the club had in mind: FC Bayern still want to extend Dayot #Upamecano’s contract on a long-term basis. Talks are ongoing, but there is no full agreement yet – despite progress being made.

The reason: Bayern consider the current wage demands of €15m/year gross too high. However, the deal is still on. @SkySportDE In the end, this deal will get done.

Bayern Munich has no other choice. As of now, Kim Min-jae and Eric Dier are the only other center-backs on the roster (though Josip Stanisic and Hiroki Ito can play the position). Youngster Tarek Buchmann has been injured for almost two full seasons at this point and likely needs a lot of seasoning before he is ready for a prime time role.

In a nutshell, Bayern Munich cannot afford to cheap out on Upamecano. Rummenigge backs Kompany (DAZN via @iMiaSanMia) Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is backing head coach Vincent Kompany.

”First of all, I find his coaching pleasant. He doesn’t stand there, gesticulate wildly and shout onto the pitch, but he’s very calm, watches the game and then coaches to address things or improve them. He lives the togetherness, he doesn’t stand above it, as was unfortunately the case with Thomas Tuchel last year, but he lives it by saying: ‘I am part of this team and I do my part to ensure that at the end of the day we hopefully leave the pitch successful,’” Rummenigge said.

“It was Louis van Gaal who came in back then and introduced the system that made us successful. Then came Jupp Heynckes, who won the treble for the first time at FC Bayern. Everyone has fine-tuned the system a little bit, like Pep Guardiola, who was an important part of FC Bayern, and also Hansi Flick, who won seven titles in a year and a half.

Everyone has contributed to our great success. It now seems that we are on the road to recovery. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned in football, it’s that there can be an honest and critical relationship between coach and team, but there also has to be a loyal relationship of trust.

We didn’t have that last year, but we have it again now.” Related Report: Thomas Müller is “the priority target for MLS clubs”; has also received enquiries from the Premier League, Serie A Story Time: Bayern Munich players hit Instagram after being eliminated by Inter Milan Ekitiké’s price rises (@Plettigoal) Eintracht Frankfurt is reportedly raising the price tag on Hugo Ekitiké: Eintracht Frankfurt have raised the price tag for Hugo #HEkitiké!
