Home | DA welcomes sacking of former Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed the sacking of former Johannesburg mayor Al Jama-ah party’s Kabelo Gwamanda as Member of the Mayoral Committee on Community Development in the City. However, the DA says the move does not close that chapter. The City’s Mayor Dada Morero announced Gwamanda’s dismissal yesterday after his return from special leave.
The party says Gwamanda’s reputation has caused so much damage during his short stint as Johannesburg mayor. City of Johannesburg | Kabelo Gwamanda relieved of all official duties: Gwamanda’s dismissal follows his alleged involvement in a fraudulent funeral policy scheme. He appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on a fraud charge last month and was granted bail.
In a statement, Executive Mayor, Dada Morero says Gwamanda’s immediate release aims to ensure that the city’s service delivery remains uninterrupted. Gwamanda was placed on special leave three weeks ago. Some political parties and COSATU in Gauteng have been calling for his dismissal.
