Home | DA to decide whether to stay in GNU or leave: Aucamp Questions are being raised about the future of the Government of National Unity (GNU) with some saying it’s on shaky ground after the Democratic Alliance (DA) voted against the 2025 budget. The party says it will challenge the budget that Members of Parliament passed yesterday. 194 MPs voted in favour of the budget and 182 against it.

The DA has argued that its legal action rests on challenging the procedure that the Finance Committee used to approve the Fiscal Framework and the constitutionality of certain measures used to collect revenue. The party has accused all the political parties that have voted in favour of the passing of the 2025/2026 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposal as handing over power back to the ANC. Party spokesperson Willie Aucamp says the party will decide whether it will remain part of the GNU or not.

“The parties now have handed that power back to the ANC to just do what they did over the last three years. And the Democratic Alliance can be proud to say, they did not form part of that. I don’t know what the sentiment will be.

” “Our FedEx [Federal Executive] will have to decide on whether to stay or to leave. But I think it is very important to say it is going to be very difficult to be a passenger in the bus but you have no say where is that bus going. But we as the party must decide on that.
