Cyclist fighting for life after horror van crash on New Oxford Street

A cyclist is in a life-threatening condition following a serious crash involving a van on one of Central London 's busiest streets. Emergency services were called to New Oxford Street at 10.59am on Saturday (April 12), where a van had collided with a cyclist.

The incident prompted a major emergency response, with multiple Met Police vehicles and a cordon set up at the scene. The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was treated by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital. Police say he remains in a critical condition.



A Met Police spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of causing injuries by careless driving after a van struck a cyclist in New Oxford Street at 10:59am on Saturday, April 12. "The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service. He was later transferred to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

" Police closed New Oxford Street from Tottenham Court Road to Bloomsbury Street and Shaftesbury Avenue to allow collision investigators to examine the scene. As of 5pm on Saturday, the road remained shut, causing significant disruption in the area. A number of London bus routes were diverted as a result of the closure, including routes 8, 14, 19, 24, 29, 38, 55, 73, 98, 176, 188, and 390.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward..
