The Centre for Cyber Security and Cyber Defense of Critical Infrastructures (C3I Hub) at IIT Kanpur has successfully trained the country's first Cyber Commando Squad. Comprising 36 officers from various police forces across India, this elite group completed a rigorous six-month residential training program. The initiative, a strategic collaboration between IIT Kanpur and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to build a dedicated force of cyber-trained personnel across states, union territories, and central agencies.
IIT Kanpur Director, Prof Manindra Agrawal, emphasised that the Cyber Commando Training Program is not only a step towards innovation in India’s digital future but also a key effort in fortifying the nation’s cybersecurity framework. . The training, conducted at IIT’s Noida Outreach Center, focused on critical domains such as cyber defense, ethical hacking, digital forensics, and penetration testing. Participants also received advanced training through specialised camps on hardware security, blockchain and cryptocurrency, and Internet of Things (IoT) security.
Each officer earned internationally recognised certifications, qualifying them as Certified Ethical Hackers, Computer Hacking Forensic Investigators, and Certified Threat Intelligence Analysts. The successful completion of the program marks a significant milestone, laying the foundation for future batches that will enhance law enforcement’s capabilities to tackle cybercrime. The closing ceremony was attended by I4C CEO Rajesh Kumar, Director Colonel Arvind Kumar, Ashutosh Bahuguna, UP Police DG Training Tilottama Verma, ADG Binod Kumar Singh, UP State Forensic Science Institute Director Dr GK Goswami, and C3I Center Coordinator Prof Sandeep Shukla.
