Prayagraj : Cyber sleuths claimed to have traced the IP address and location of at least three handlers involved in circulating old videos and clips related to slain mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his gang on social media platforms. Additional DCP (City) Abhijeet Kumar told TOI that cyber sleuths have managed to trace the IP address of the handlers circulating old videos of Atiq Ahmed and action would be initiated accordingly. "A team of cyber sleuths has also been assigned to tighten the noose around the miscreants involved in circulating old videos on social media platforms," he said.
The ADCP said, "The motive behind circulating such videos would be unearthed once the handlers fall into the police net." The process of circulating old videos of the slain gangster and his henchmen gained momentum about a fortnight back. The police are investigating the matter to ascertain the identities of the miscreants involved in the same and their motive.
A senior cyber cell official said, "Police are maintaining a close watch on such social media accounts and compiling the details." He added, "Police have collected the details of two such accounts being named after the slain gangster and other names, as well as details of old videos being uploaded." Investigations also claimed that most of these social media accounts circulated old videos related to slain Atiq Ahmed, his family, and close aides.
Videos wherein mafias and other gang members were going to appear in courts were also uploaded. It may be recalled here that mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his younger brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf were allegedly shot dead by three assailants on Colvin Hospital campus under the limits of Shahganj police station of Prayagraj district on April 15, 2023..
