Cuttack gang rape case: Odisha will be a crime-free state for women by 2036, says Law Minister

Amidst statewide outrage over the gang-rape of a girl college student allegedly by her boyfriend and his friends in Cuttack, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Friday assured of strictest punishment in women-related crimes. Addressing media persons, the Law Minister maintained that the BJP government has zero tolerance towards women-related crimes and is committed to make Odisha a crime-free state for women by 2036. “Be it domestic violence, torture, rape, gang rape, our government has zero tolerance to women-related crimes and is committed to take stringent action against the perpetrators.

CM Mohan Majhi has already directed to take the strictest of punishment against the accused in the Cuttack gang-rape case,” informed the Law Minister. “CM Mohan Majhi has time and again stated that our government will never back off from taking strict action against atrocities on women. If needed, our government will make amendments in the law to increase the prosecution and conviction rate in women-related crimes,” he added.



“We promise to make Odisha a crime-free state for women by 2036,” the Law Minister stated. Meanwhile, Cuttack DCP has directed officials to immediately seal the cafe where the accused boyfriend and his friends allegedly made an obscene video of the rape survivor and blackmailed her to gang-rape her multiple times. Threatening to circulate her private video on social media platforms, they called her to different places and gang-raped her.

Cuttack police have arrested all the six accused, including a minor, who have been produced before the court..
