Gunmen had at series of attacks last Sunday, killed many youth, including girls and women in a suspected cult rivalry at Nibo and Nodu communities within Awka South LGA. “This is just another instance of the kind of violent crimes linked to cults that have occurred recently, and the state government is determined to put an end to it. The government sympathises with the families of the deceased and assures them that the government will get to the root of the incident and bring the perpetrators to book. “To this end, the government appeals to members of the public to avail it of any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators, while assuring them of confidentiality and a handsome reward.

Hotlines for relaying this and related information will be made available,” he noted. Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nnaghe Obono Itam, in another statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, has ordered immediate deployment of additional operatives to the area for necessary action.

The police also urged the witnesses of the incident to volunteer information that could lead towards identification of the perpetrators for possible arrest, assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
