BOULDER — The Colorado Buffaloes, and 99-year-old superfan Peggy Coppom, are going bowling. Deion Sanders’ team clinched its first bowl appearance in a full season since 2016 with an 34-23 win over Cincinnati. The Buffs move to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in Big 12 play with the victory.

Despite another late-night kickoff at Folsom Field, it was a sold-out crowd of 53,202 at Folsom Field for one of the signature victories of the Coach Prime era. But, as Sanders said last week in Tucson, “Ms. Peggy has taste.

” CU’s goal was never to simply make a bowl game. They’re after a conference title — and they remain just one game back of first place — and as nice of a bowl game as possible. Here are three takeaways from the game: Travis Hunter was clearly not himself last week at Arizona.

The CU coaching staff practically said so by not involving him in the game plan as heavily as he usually is on both sides of the ball. But the typical Hunter — the one who is firmly in the race to win the Heisman Trophy — was back on Saturday night in Boulder with over 120 total snaps. The two-way star put together another dominant performance at both cornerback and wide receiver.

He finished with nine catches for 153 yards for his first game with over 100 receiving yards since the win over Baylor. He’s up to a team-leading eight touchdowns, including one that gave CU a 10-point lead in the final seconds of the first half. On the other side of the ball, Hunter had three pass break ups and contributed to another impressive overall defensively.

Shedeur Sanders keeps making his mark on the CU record book. The Buffs’ star quarterback completed his first 15 passes against the Bearcats, a new program record, breaking the one previously held by both Joel Klatt and Steven Montez of 12 completions. Shedeur finished with one of his more efficient performances of the season, completing 25-of-30 passes (83%) for 323 yards and three total touchdowns.

It was his fifth game of the season with over 300 passing yards. He’s now up over 2,500 passing yards on the season and is on pace to break Koy Detmer’s record for passing yards in a single season (3,527 yards). Coach Prime’s club couldn’t have picked a better weekend to continue its winning ways.

The Buffs had a number of highly-rated recruits, both for next year’s 2025 class and beyond. Four-star USC commit, quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis from Carrollton, Ga., was the headliner.

Lewis has visited CU before and took a viral photo with Shedeur Sanders in which the current CU QB was “handing over the keys” to the prized recruit . Lewis has been committed to the Trojans for over a year, but has also taken official visits to Auburn and Indiana, in addition to CU and USC. He was joined by fellow USC commit, four-star offensive lineman Carde Smith .

The Buffs did get a commitment on Saturday from four-star wide receiver Adrian Wilson, who recently decommitted from Arizona State. The Pflugerville, Texas native becomes the 10th member of the 2025 recruiting class..
