CSU loses in overtime to Eastern Illinois; fall to 1-10

Charleston Southern suffered yet another frustrating loss on Saturday, losing 13-10 in overtime to Eastern Illinois in Big South/OVC football action. The Buccaneers fall to 1-10 with their ninth straight loss and close out the 2024 season next Saturday at Florida State. CSU rallied from a 13-6 deficit, tying the game with 4:52 to play in regulation on Jamil Bishop’s 15-yard touchdown scamper.

The game moved to overtime and CSU failed to get a first down on fourth-and-one from the 16-yard line on their possession. No-surrender Buccaneers face final 2 games on road EIU lined up for a game-winning field goal attempt but the snap was high and rolled harmlessly on the field. A CSU player kicked the loose ball up the field, resulting in a penalty and a first down for EIU at the CSU eight-yard line.



EIU’s Justin Patino converted the 18-yard field goal attempt to seal the win. CSU led 6-0 on a pair of Reid Montgomery field goals in the second quarter before EIU scored a pair of touchdowns in the final two minutes of the first half to claim a 13-6 lead. EIU finished the game with only 244 total yards while the Buccaneers mustered just 210 yards. CSU’s defense forced three turnovers but the Bucs were penalized 15 times for 118 yards. CSU played two quarterbacks but Rob McCoy and Kaleb Jackson were largely ineffective, combining for only 85 yards passing.
