Veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni returned to captaincy in the previous T20i match for team Chennai Super Kings, becoming the oldest in IPL history. The 43-year-old returned as CSK’s skipper after Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury. However, fans missed ‘Thala’s’ vintage touch as a captain that led the team to 5 IPL titles in the past.
The team suffered a massive loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in its home ground, the Chepauk stadium. KKR sent back the entire CSK squad at 103 for 9, their lowest in their own backyard. Barring Shivam Dube’s 31 out of 29, CSK fell like a house of cards, including skipper Dhoni, who came at 9.
He was LBWd at a mere one run, which created quite a stir. For KKR, Sunil Narine performed both with the bowling and batting as he packed the CSK team for 3/13 and later an impressive show of 44/18 with the willow. He was declared the man of the match.
This is CSK’s fifth loss in a streak. Remarking on the defeat, MS Dhoni said, " I think quite a few nights haven't gone our way—what's important is to look deep down inside. I feel the challenge was there but it's important to accept that challenge, figure out ways you'll tackle the difficult deliveries, & then look to get runs on the board.
