The collegiate rodeo season rolls on throughout the fall. College of Southern Idaho’s Ashton Zabriskie won the bull riding as the women finished fourth and the men earned sixth at the Idaho State University Rodeo this past weekend in Pocatello. Libby Swan left everything she knew about rodeo for 18 months.

She couldn’t bring her horses. Couldn’t compete. Zabriskie, a freshman from Caldwell, competed in his first collegiate event and represents CSI’s second bull riding champion so far this season.

This marked CSI’s second rodeo of the season. Zachary Oros, a freshman from Elko, Nevada, won the event at the Southern Utah University Rodeo. Libby Swan won the all-around and breakaway roping titles, Coy Montgomery claimed the bareback riding title and Zachary Oros won the bull riding.

Zabriskie recently won the Novice Division at the International Miniature BullRiders Association World Finals. Joshua Dobbins grabbed second in the saddle bronc riding while Bryce Martin finished fourth. Cade Johnson received fourth in the tie-down roping while Landen Roggenkamp and Chase Andrade shared fourth in the bulldogging.

Coy Montgomery tore his left MCL in June at the College National Finals Rodeo. He tore it again in early August but won't stop chasing his championship goals. Hailey Biggs led CSI women at second in goat tying and Macey Moore clinched fifth in breakaway roping.

CSI will compete in the Colorado Northwestern Rodeo, set for Friday and Saturday in Rangely, Colorado. A collection of the College of Southern Idaho sports stories.
