CRPF jawan among 14 held after clash in Sambrewadi

Pune: A serving jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF ) is among 14 men arrested by the rural police in connection with a clash between rival groups of youngsters during the night between Saturday and Sunday. The clash in Sambrewadi near Khanapur, some 25km from Pune city off the road to Panshet, left one dead and one injured. "Mohan Sabaji Chor (52), who resides in Talegaon Dabhade and is posted with the CRPF's Dantewada battalion, had given his licenced .

He gave it to Darwatkar a few months ago to tackle the menace of wild boars and animals damaging crops in their farms in Khanapur." Deshmukh also said, "We will be writing to CRPF about the illegal handover of the rifle by Chor to his relative. The CRPF may act against him for this.

" Darwatkar, Chor, and prime suspect Tejas Wagh are among the 12 men arrested on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, and the murder of Rohit alias Bhorya Dhile during the clash. The remaining two arrested are from the other group led by Dhile. Two rounds had been fired by a member of the rival group from a country-made firearm at the aide of Tejas, Somnath Ananta Wagh, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

"Somnath's condition has been reported serious, but he is stable for now," the SP said. Deshmukh added, "Dhile's aide, who is suspected of firing at Somnath, is still at large. We are yet to recover the country-made firearm used.

" Somnath's uncle, Suresh Dashrath Tagunde, stated in one of the complaints that Dhile called and abused Tejas, then challenged him to meet at Khanapur Chowk to settle their issue. The groups assembled at Sambrewadi near the chowk, where the clash occurred. Dhile died of injuries caused by iron rods, billhooks and choppers, the police said.

Deshmukh said, "Dhile's aide, Vikas Narge (26), who has been arrested, was externed by the Pimpri Chinchwad police but came to Pune from Satara to participate in the crime after receiving a call from Dhile. We are informing the Pimpri Chinchwad police about the same. Two other members of Darwatkar's group, who have been arrested, are involved in MSEDCL distribution point box thefts.
