Cross-country roundup: Willmar Cardinal girls keep pace at Rocori XC Invite

COLD SPRING — The Willmar girls cross-country team put together a third-place finish at the Rocori XC Invite Thursday at River Oaks Golf Course. Willmar placed third with 126 points. Alexandria won the girls’ race with 33 points, followed by Wayzata’s 126.

Wayzata had the tiebreaker over Willmar due to a higher finish for the sixth runner. Erin Eilers was Willmar’s top runner. She placed ninth at 20 minutes.



27.6 seconds. Behind her was Sophia Negen in 21st place at 21:31.

5. Fergus Falls’ Cassie Wellman won at 18:58.4.

The Willmar boys team took ninth with 240 points. Fergus Falls claimed the team championship with 51, followed by Wayzata’s 72 and Big Lake’s 119. Zach Engstrom had Willmar’s best finish with a 29th-place time of 18:11.

7. Levi Twedt was 35th at 18:35.1.

Sartell’s Andrew Berndt won at 16:43.9. Willmar was without its top runners on the girls and boys teams.

Lauren Eilers and Sully Anez will compete at the 38th Roy Griak Invitational Friday at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights. Willmar hosts its home invitational at 10 a.m.

on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Rocori Invitational Caty Delwiche Invitational Litchfield’s boys and girls teams placed second at the Caty Delwiche Invitational at Glencoe.

The Dragon boys had 77 points, finishing behind Dassel-Cokato’s 55. They were led by Judah Allen and August Swenson, who finished third and fourth, respectively. Allen crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 37.

49 seconds. Swenson finished at 17:38.00.

Dassel-Cokato’s Charlie Bortnem won the boys’ race at 17:36.55. The Litchfield girls scored 120 points, placing second behind Mound-Westonka’s 52.

Elsa Helstrom crossed the finish line at 21:01.8, good for third place. Dassel-Cokato’s Amanda Ashwill won at 20:27.

5. EVW/Kimball Invitational Rock Bridge High School of Columbia, Missouri won both the boys and girls race at the Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball Invitational at Kimball Golf Club. The Bruins are in Minnesota to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday.

The Rock Bridge girls had 15 points, followed by Legacy Christian Academy’s 77, EVW/Kimball’s 90 and Paynesville/Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s 91. The Bruins’ Kaitlyn Reid won at 20:59.9.

Paynesville/BBE’s Lauren Ellefson placed eighth at 23:10.5. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City took sixth with 159 and was paced by Brinley Grimsgard’s 15th-place time of 24:17.

2. In the boys’ race, Rock Bridge was first with 21 points, followed by EVW/Kimball’s 75 and Legacy Christian’s 77. ACGC was fifth with 126, with Cooper Overson taking 32nd place at 20:54.

1. Paynesville/BBE was seventh with 165. Taylor Nelson placed sixth for the Bulldogs at 18:39.
