Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was left amazed by his team after they completed a staggering comeback to beat Benfica 5-4 in the Champions League . The visitors looked set for defeat at the Estadio da Luz but managed to turn the game around and win it thanks to a late strike from Raphinha. Here’s what the manager made of the madness: “It was a crazy game.

The most positive thing was the mentality we had. We came back and it was wonderful. That’s football and that’s why we love it,” he told reporters.

“I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a comeback like this. It’s incredible. We didn’t play as well in the first half.

They are very good in transitions and they scored that first goal. They made us defend very deep. We weren’t in the right position.

In the second half we were better. The changes helped us a lot in the comeback.” Flick also defended goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny who made some poor errors during the game and cost Barca two goals.

“Szczesny? What player doesn’t make mistakes? It’s normal, we win together and we lose together. It’s not just about one player,” he added. “The mentality.

.. sometimes you have to play like that.

I liked what I saw in the second half. “It’s very important to focus on the Valencia and Atalanta games. We mustn’t think that we’re comfortable.

Not at all. Many teams think they can be in the final eight.” Barca can now enjoy a memorable win and a place in the next phase of the Champions League but there will be plenty of lessons to learn from this game.
