MOTORISTS are being warned over “slippery” conditions on Irish roads this morning as the country is blasted by heavy rain. It comes after a crash on Dublin’s M50 motorway earlier this morning following an overnight rain alert. The M50 is experiencing wet conditionsTIIA Status Yellow rain warning is in place for Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Meath and Louth until 2pm.
The collision occurred between Junction 5 Finglas and Junction 6 Blanchardstown on the M50 southbound this morning.Lane three was impacted by the collision but the incident has since been cleared. Also on the M50, Transport Infrastructure Ireland warned of a “slippery surface” on the northbound route.
While heavy rain hits the entire motorway, the area between Junction 17 M50/M11 and Junction 3 M1/M50 has been hit the worst.The M50 southbound has also been hit with a slippery service warning.The area from Junction 3 M1/M50 until the end of the motorway is experiencing a wet surface.
TII warned: “When approaching the area, reduce your speed and drive with caution.”TII added: “When driving in the rain, be aware of reduced visibility and longer breaking distance! Slow down! “Stay safe on the roads! Safety is in your hands!”There remains congestion in both directions throughout the M50 this morning.Elsewhere on Irish roads, there are roadworks being carried out on the M1/N1 northbound.
These are beginning at 9am, with an end time of 3pm this afternoon.The road works will be carried out between Junction 15 Castlebellingham and Junction 18 Carlingford.TII said: “When approaching the roadworks area, drive with caution, be aware of road workers and reduce your speed.
”IRISH RAIL DISRUPTIONSA number of Irish Rail services are also experiencing delays this morning.The 7.05am service from Grand Canal Dock to Drogheda was cancelled this morning due to a technical issue, with the 7.

55am Drogheda to Dun Laoighaire is operating 15 minutes late due to operational issues.The 7am Cork to Heuston also saw a 14 minute delay leaving Limerick Junction over a technical issue..
