The future is beginning to look grim for the Dallas Cowboys. Not only are the Cowboys now 3-6, but much of their payroll is starting to become concentrated in a few players. That's rarely a winning formula no matter how good those players are, but if quarterback Dak Prescott plays like he did before his injury this season, Dallas is in serious trouble.
Paying Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and presumably, Micah Parsons at the top of the market means the Cowboys will have to let other quality starters go if opposing teams are willing to pay them what they're worth. That principle will be tested this winter on one of the Cowboys' key defensive starters. Osa Odighizuwa, a stalwart at defensive tackle who has started 55 of the last 59 games for Dallas, was predicted to sign with the Seattle Seahawks by Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department on Monday.
"Seattle's run defense has been suspect this season, while Jarran Reed and Johnathan Hankins are both impending 2025 free agents. Odighizuwa has been a regular starter for Dallas since the Cowboys selected him in the third round of the 2021 draft," the authors said. "The 6'2", 280-pound Odighizuwa should be able to shift between tackle and end, and he won't turn 27 until August.
He also has experience playing under defensive coordinator Aden Durde, who spent the last three seasons as Dallas' defensive line coach." Odighizuwa is more of a run-stopper than a pass-rusher, but he's been highly effective in that role during his time in Dallas. He has an average tackle depth of 2.
0 yards and has been worth 65 total points saved for the Cowboys defense in his career, per Sports Info Solutions . If Seattle or any other team is willing to give Odighizuwa a significant raise from his $3.3 million 2024 salary, the Cowboys may have no choice but to let him walk.
And that will make it even more difficult to assemble a playoff team out of the rundown roster they currently possess. More NFL: Cowboys urged to hire Deion Sanders away from Colorado by ex-NFL head coach.
