Court grants bail to man accused of ₹91 lakh fraud

New Delhi: A Delhi court recently granted bail to an alleged mastermind of a cyber fraud involving around Rs 91 lakh. While granting bail, the court of chief judicial magistrate Nabeela Wali said, “The applicant/accused has been in custody since July 15. Recovery of incriminating material has already been affected from the applicant/accused and mobile phone of applicant/accused has been seized and the investigating officer has not produced anything before the court to show the basic information and material for arresting the accused.

This court is of the opinion that no ground for further custodial interrogation is made out”. The accused, Dinesh, was among eight people arrested in July by Delhi Police. According to the prosecution, the accused were involved in allegedly defrauding one Sachin Bansal through a WhatsApp group.



Bansal, who joined the group on Jan 17 this year, was given tips for stock market investment by the members of the group and was also asked to open a cryptocurrency account on the website www.yotemog.com under the pretext of high trading returns.

Between the duration of April 2 and June 16, Bansal transferred Rs 91 lakh to 19 different accounts given by the members of the group to him. However, he later realised that he had been defrauded. After he filed a complaint, these accounts were frozen.

Advocate Pravesh Dabas, counsel for the accused, submitted before the court that the investigation related to him had already been completed and no purpose would be served by keeping him in judicial custody. The counsel also claimed that he was falsely implicated based on statements given by the co-accused. The court noted incriminating materials had already been seized and further custodial interrogation wasn't necessary.
