Surat: The bodies of three members of a family — a couple and their two-year-old child —were found in their home at Solsumba village of Umargam taluka in Valsad district on Thursday. The man was found hanging, while his wife and child were found dead on a bed. The bodies of Shivam Vishwakarma (28), his wife Aarti (25) and their two-year-old son were discovered.
No one opened the door of their apartment on the third floor of Nilkanth Apartments when neighbours knocked. Police were later called. The door was broken open and the bodies were found.
The bodies were sent for postmortems. Police will conduct a forensic postmortem of the child to determine how he died. "It seems the woman died from hanging after which the the man brought her body down.
He then hanged himself. The postmortem report will reveal the exact details," said a police officer. Police have recovered a suicide note, based on which an investigation has begun.
Vishwakarma's friends told police that the deceased traded in stocks and got people known to him to invest in them. He suffered losses in trading. "They usually opened their door early and we would notice movement, but today no one was seen.
We knocked at around 10am, but no one opened. We called them on the mobile, but the calls went unanswered, after which we called the police," a neighbour said. "Those in touch with Shivam said he was depressed due to losses suffered in stock trading.
We are trying to gather more details. How much he lost, and his debts are yet to be ascertained," a police official said. Vishwakarma was a production supervisor at a steel manufacturing unit.
Aarti did part-time work at home. The family were from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. Stay updated with the latest city news , Air Quality Index (AQI), and weather updates for major cities like Delhi , Mumbai , Noida , and Bangalore on Times of India .
