Couple sentenced to 10 years jail for drug trafficking on Rajdhani Express

Vadodara: An additional sessions court has sentenced two individuals, Iqbal Khan and Samira Sheikh, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for trafficking cannabis on the Rajdhani Express in 2020. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Ahmedabad received a tip-off that the duo was transporting drugs from Delhi to Mumbai by train. Acting on the information, officers intercepted the suspects when the train halted at Vadodara railway station.

A search of their luggage revealed a stash of cannabis, which tested positive using a drug detection kit on the spot. Both were arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. After examining the evidence presented during the trial, the court sentenced Khan and Sheikh to 10 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.



The court further ruled that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional two years of imprisonment..
